The work update

As you all know, I've been looking for work for the last 4.5 months. It's been tough to put it mildly. I've been looking at both bartending jobs as well as research oriented ones. Some may wonder why I am not looking at that many dog/animal ones. It's mostly because the pay is lousy, there are rarely benefits, or I do not agree with their methods (sorry I can't do something that will be completely unjust to me). This doesn't mean that if I happen to comes across a dog/animal job that I would not take it. There is actually one job that I am looking at, but the interviews won't be until July. That job has a variable amount of factors, but if it worked out, it would be a great opportunity.

Last week, I had 3 interviews. Two which seemed like they could possibly pan out, however, I have not heard back yet. The third one is not for me, so if they do not call back, that is okay.

Needless to say this job searching thing wears and tears on my emotions. Some days, I'm feeling optimistic about it, but at other times, I am not at all and feel frustrated, discouraged, and depressed about the whole thing. It does not help either that in the same conversation, my father will say to me:

Don't be discouraged, something will come up soon
to
Well, you need a job
to
If you want to go to medical/vet school, we'll find a way to make it work.

Sheesh, talk about a mixed set of emotions. It is hard, because my parents are helping me out a lot, and of course I do want and am looking for a job, but sometimes, my father isn't helpful. This is one of those moments where it is sometimes better not to say anything at all unless the other party brings it up. Of course, I do not want it to become one of those "walking on eggshells" feelings like eating, food, weight, etc. once were.

So that's my work report for the time being. I keep trudging along I guess, but it is not always easy.

hang in there. i know it stinks.

i was out of work last summer and spent months desperately looking for a job. i did get one, and unfortunately i left it for the one i have now. but there are DEFINETELY decent jobs out there.

it's great that you've gotten interviews!!!!!!

do you want to go to vet school?

whatever you do or decide, if it's not ideal, you'll keep moving toward that ideal.

Really the best job is pet/house sitting. Get your name out there around where you live. It's amazing! People pay you to live in their house and walk their dog.
I've found it's the best job that provides some extra cash.

Love your blog!

Hey, good luck on the jobs. I wish I had something more supportive to say but thinking of you. I kinda understand the struggles with the obligation to family and what not, good luck on that front too.

Definitely thinking of you xo

Thanks for your support, everyone!

Melissa, I have thought about vet/medical/PA school, but no matter what I come to the same thing--it would be a year of more of pre-requisites, with hardly any income, and then many years of school afterwards.

There is a trend in non-traditional people going to med/vet schools, and the schools have found them attractive. Still though, I need income, especially as a single person.

Ellie, I have thought about pet sitting, but there are some drawbacks. One I am single and have 3 dogs and a rabbit, so I cannot do overnight stays. Many people who are in the pet/house sitting industry have spouses or use it as a side income, not a sole one. Even with the dog training industry, quite a few people have it as their second or third career.

I've also thought about dog walking as well, but you run into never being able to take time off or rarely at least.

There is also the issue of simple "competition" with my former employer which isn't really what I want to be looked at as.

In the end, I may one day go that direction, but before anything, I want to be sure I am ready for that type of life and make sure it is dome professionally.
