Peanut butter recall

I really didn't pay too much attention to the most recent peanut butter recall due to possible salmonella until I realized that my parents had just bought peanut butter ice cream that was voluntarily pulled. And I ate some of it unknowingly! I'm not that worried about it since if any symptoms had appeared, they would have by now. However, what concerns me more is that this recall is expanding and now Clif Bar, one of my favorite energy bars, has voluntarily recalled several of their bars with peanut butter. Luckily, my palate likes a lot of other flavors, so this is only a minor nuisance. Still though, I hope this doesn't ruin my relationship with peanut butter as it has often been a love/hate, off-again/on-again type of thing.

The recall has also expanded to some pet food products with Pet Smart pulling their peanut butter biscuits. Store brands peanut butter jars are not affected by the recall, only products with peanut butter and peanut paste distributed from the Peanut Corporation of America plant in Blakely, GA.

After reading the book Pet Food Politics, these recalls leave me a bit skeptical on the consumer front.

A full listing of recalled products can be seen on the fda website.

Oh no! They voluntarily recalled my Nutz Over Chocolate luna bars! Is it silly of me to dismiss this recall? I love my luna bars!

Hey Tiptoe, thanks for this update--my roommate was eating a peanut butter and chocolate Clif Bar when I read this post! She stopped, and threw the other out.

Haha, during the last major PB recall, we went to visit my boyfriend's parents.

There was a jar of half-eaten PB in the fridge, and my boyfriend and I had a fit.

His dad more or less said "I'm not dead yet, so I'm pretty sure it's an alright jar".

Even funnier were the empty jars of peanut butter stacked at Wal-mart, where people had eaten the peanut butter, heard the recall, and taken the empty jar back to the store for their money.

Kim, I'm with you on Luna Bars! I eat them quite frequently. I hope the mini peanut butter clif bars don't get recalled, because those are so tasty!

Tiger, sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.

Jessica, oh my, that is funny about the people taking their jars back for a refund, tough I guess technically, it makes sense. Just not something I'd ever do.

Awww man! This recall kind of freaks me out, because I tend to always buy things in "peanut butter flavor". Especially the Mojo Clif bars. Mmm. I've made sure not to buy any of it, but I've noticed that NONE of the stores around here have pulled any of these products! Last time the PB thing happened, those shelves were empty immediately, and now? It's like they're ignoring it. I think I'm missing something.

Gutsinarut, I think it only pertains to certain bars and their expiration dates, so that might be one reason why you're not seeing all the bars pulled. Even so, I think it is better to just be on the safe side.
